Allergic Reaction to Flea Bites on Humans

Allergic Reaction to Flea Bites on Humans

Now we’re talking serious.

Some people are more sensitive than others, it’s just the way things are. In most severe cases of allergic reaction, one may even experience anaphylactic shock, because the body then reacts violently to the bite. However, this is very, very rare – the fact that you have the time to read this article most probably means that you’re not experiencing this.

More common symptoms of an allergic reaction to fleas bites may include difficulty breathing, dizziness, nausea, severe swelling in the lips or tongue, even chest pain.

If you, or someone in your surroundings, are experiencing any or more of THESE, then call the ambulance.

However, try not to mistake an infected bite for an allergic reaction, and start panicking for no reason. The infection can be manifested through swollen glands, increasing redness and pain in and around the bite, and it is also the reason to call your doctor – but not as urgent as the allergic reaction.

Humans affected by flea bites can suffer from an allergic reaction to the flea saliva, known as flea allergy dermatitis. Dog and cats are commonly identified as flea hosts, but rodents, birds and small furry animals can also carry fleas. If you believe your flea bites are from animals other than dogs or cats, your reaction may be more than just allergic, and you should see a doctor to eliminate the possibility of certain flea-transmitted diseases especially prevalent in developing countries.
